Friday 16th July

Vic Earwicker

It is with great sadness that the club announces the death of Vic Earwicker.

Vic was a great servant to the club and will be sorely missed. He is one of a select few who can truly be called an EBOG Legend.

The funeral will take place at New Southgate Crematorium (Brunswick Park Road) at approximately 11:15 on Friday 30th July with light refreshment available at EBOG (Alan Drive) following the service.

Flowers are welcome (please liaise Mr Graham Pistorius from funeral directors W. Nodes, 37A High Street, Barnet, EN5 5UW.) Donations can be made to Macmilliam Cancer Relief (in Vics name)

Summer Friendlies
For anyone who fancies a game during the summer we will keep a 'summer' pitch marked throughout the summer for friendlies. If you wish to organize a friendly you will need to speak to Sid re kit and Roy to make a booking. At least one side should be EBOG (£5 each which pays for Ref, showers etc).

Functions
Almost every other week we turn down requests from non-members to hire the Club. This is because the Club is for its members and we wish to be sure that we know who is in the Club and that they will respect it and our neighbours. However, we have another summer coming up and we do need Club members to take advantage of this facility. A family party or special occasion?

There is nothing better on a sunny afternoon than sitting outside on the grass or in the suntrap on the terrace with a cold beer and a barbecue. Lots of room for children to run about and play games. Our bar prices may have to go up but they are still amongst the lowest in the district. We will have the 'summer pitch' marked up for the next 3 months so there is also the opportunity to have the odd friendly during the summer followed by a long cold drink.

Association Newsletter
The latest, June, edition of the Association Newsletter is now aviable on the Association page.

Roof
Deardon Roofing are completing the final section of the roof which roughly covers the area over the whole of the hall. It should be completed by July. Fundraising, donations and the Raffle have contributed more than £6000 towards the cost but unfortunately this is not enough so we are still collecting. Thanks to all those who have generously donated so far.

On Friday 9th July at The Wyllyotts Theatre, Potters, there will be a concert in rememberance of Carrie. Tickets are £15 and all proceeds will go to the Roadpeace Charity.

Monday 10th May

Roy's Weekend Round Up
Another 'great escape' for the 2nds as it looks from the tables that, partly because of results elsewhere, they were safe after the 1st May result. Well done to Peter Harris who rallied the troops when all looked lost. On the Bank Holiday Monday, the 2nds entertained a skillful West Wickham side who kept fighting back and thoroughly deserved their point. Most of the goals were in an entertaining second half. It was a tight match on the bottom pitch which could easily have gone either way. Salesians didn't look like a bottom side and indeed their 1st team have only missed the Div 1 title on goal difference. This draw leaves the 2nds in 7th place - incredible when you think they were bottom only 2 weeks before.

3bog had a rare loss on the 1st May. On a weekend with lots of unavailability, Lee could only muster the bare 11 to travel down to Mitcham but they were unlucky to go down by the odd goal. Fortunately they are safe in 3rd place Div1, and were back on form against a plucky Kew side on the 8th May. With one game to go, 3bog have already achieved the highest place of any EBOG team. Another goal for Captain Sterry but we won't mention the penalty! Their last game is on the day after the dinner so will probably need stretcher bearers standing by!

Our 8ths got very little change out of a strong Finchleians side on 1st May and slipped into last place because of Alex Pk 8th's draw with their own 7ths which was enough to lift them off the bottom. Young Matt Freeman has done a good job holding the 8ths together and has never let the inevitable defeats against over-strength sides dampen his spirit. Their 13 points have been hard won. They have one more game left on 'hangover Saturday' after the dinner. Matt also took over the 7ths last Saturday but couldn't get them a victory in their final game at Winchmore Hill. This leaves them in 9th place with 19 points.

Club Dinner Friday 14th May - SELL OUT
All 119 tickets (a record capacity) for the dinner were fully paid by 9th May . You were warned that paying in advance was the only way to ensure your place. Anyone who's missed out will have to wait for a drop-out. No dinner ticket money can be taken on the night and only people with tickets can come. The Club Dinner is strictly for members and guests of honour. It is an Ebog night for Ebog members.

Monday 26th April

Roy's Weekend Round Up
A very busy day for the Club with 7 visiting teams including a Cup Final and a Finchleians' home game against Ibis. Thanks to all those who helped out, particularly Neil McLelland and Terry Boyce who managed to juggle 10 teams smoothly through 6 changing rooms. A good day on the bar though. The 2nds needed a win and overwhelmed a Polytechnic side who were struggling for players. This brings them alongside a number of other teams and they need, at the very least a win, against the bottom side Salesians next Saturday, and then a tough game to finish against West Wickham 2 days later on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm KO). Let's get some support down to the Club for what is a traditional last day fight for survival (3 in the last 4 years?).

3bog had a tough game against their only rivals for 3rd place and firmly put them in their place - 4th! They confirmed their position as the highest placed EBOG side in the League but the top two in Division 1 are too far away to catch. Two more opportunist goals from Ed Dixon and a superbly crafted final goal rewarding a surging run from Dave Flannery.

The 5ths were the only casualties of the day with an extraordinary scoreline suggesting end of season light-headiness abandoning all defence. They were 3-0 up as well and Dan Caskie also saved a penalty to keep it in single figures! A disappointing end to a good season of which Sam Warne can generally be proud.

After their victory against Vamps 7ths in midweek, the 6ths met a much stronger looking Vamps 8ths and worked hard to hold them to a draw. They are now comfortable, however, in a mid-table position. Congratulations to Steve Down and team and a crucial contribution from Adam Callow subbing as Captain a week or so ago.

After recent calamities the 7ths stormed back with a convincing win in the final game which puts them in 9th place but more crucially 3 points clear of a rejuvenated 8ths. The latter were asked to kick off at midday because of shortage of pitches at Parkonians. Captain Matt Freeman was unable to raise a side at short notice for a meet time of 10am!

Nearly 70 tickets have already gone for the dinner and it looks like we will reach capacity. Paying in advance is the only way to ensure your place, no dinner ticket money can be taken on the night. Tuesday 20th April

Roy's Weekend Round Up

EBOG 1sts Champions Senior Division 2! - You can't finish a season more emphatically than thrashing a side who had recently taken points from all the major contenders. Back in February the mission looked lost to mid-table mediocrity; then enter Gary Haycock as a stopgap goalie. This seemed to trigger the team to realise their potential and start an amazing 9 game winning run with an aggregate goal tally of 43 - 5! Congratulations to all concerned and to the management team of Nick Page and Richard Barker who, after a rocky start, seemed to guide them on a path of steady improvement both in quality and discipline on the pitch.

3bog had a tough game away game against a team who were a close rival for third place. Darren Barker put them ahead but it was level by half-time. They needed something extra and up stepped Captain Lee Sterry for the umpteenth time to score a vital goal and clinch the win. 16 goals is a fantastic tally for a central defender and the season isn't finished yet.

The 4ths continued their downward spiral although they were up against the top of the table side. They went 1-0 up and were not struggling until the second half. Lack of fitness was suggested by the Captain Shane Khan for them tailing off. The 5ths returned to form with a crushing defeat of the 3rd placed side and this could have put them back in 4th place with an outside chance to pinch 3rd place in their last game next Saturday.

The 6ths need one more win but it was not to be against a strong looking 4th placed Finchleians side. Similarly the 7ths were quickly down against Finchleians and never looked likely to get back. The 8ths relished their opportunity to show their mettle on the bottom pitch and scored some great goals. Only just over a week ago, the 8th's Captain Matt Freeman's season looked over when he was on his way, by ambulance to Barnet General, with a suspected broken leg. However, in true Easter spirit he rose from the grave to score an amazing goal on Saturday from around the halfway line!

Spare a thought for CJ who is stuck in Tenerife (could be worse?) by volcanic ash and phoned the Club Saturday to arrange for the Ladies kit to be collected for tomorrow's match, which she sounded disappointed to miss.

All are 6pm ko unless stated:

Monday 12th April

Roy's Weekend Round Up
Congratulations to the 1sts who are now certain of promotion after their 8th win in a row. They need only a draw next week in their final game at Lloyds to deservedly go up as champions. It wasn't easy or pretty this week. Crouch End were out to spoil the party and closed down quickly with some aggressive and in some cases late and unnecessary tackling. Our players and particularly those up front showed an excellent temperament just getting up and getting on with it. If they've learnt nothing else this season it is that retaliation is a mugs game. Often the intention of a defender is to provoke the forward and get him sent off. You don't win games when your short of players and you lose a lot of football if you're sent off. Hopefully the 1sts will take this greater maturity into next season and get a good start in Division 1. They may even have to consider going training!

The 2nds couldn't have had a better start against the top side moving quickly into a 2-0 lead before conceding a killer goal a few seconds from half-time. After that Acton went up a gear and put us I our place, but it was a good sign that we had them very worried. To avoid relegation, we now have to win our 3 remaining games and hope that others don't.

It was a big day for 3bog in the first ever SAL Cup Final for an EBOG side. They couldn't have had a bigger challenge because they were up against undoubtedly the strongest 3rd team in AFA football and we were the only side to have taken any points from them in the League. The SAL couldn't have found a venue much further away than Beckenham, Kent so it was a railway journey for our squad which included Darren Barker 'fresh' from his fight the previous night. The game didn't start well and we allowed Nottsborough to speed to a 3-0 by halftime.

However, 3bog don't give up that easily and the fighting spirit which has served them well all season enabled them to force the game into extra time including the usual Captain's goal. It was only in the second half of extra time that they finally cracked and conceded two more goals. They can look back on an excellent season, however, as the EBOG team playing at the highest level.

Once again drop-outs ruined the 4ths chances but on this occasion many were from their own team. They are slipping away from the top into mid-table anonymity.Similarly the 5ths were much changed but it was still galling to lose to a last minute penalty. The Crouch End pitch was so bad the Ref offered to call it off! The 6ths were mostly the 7ths but were still unlucky to lose both matches. There was a guest appearance from Tim & Terry Ellis the latter visiting from north Yorkshire after a spell in Australia. All the drop-outs caused the cancellation of the 7ths who had less matches left than the 8ths. A much changed 8th team just couldn't quite get the goals against the bottom side and inherit their position!

Good news for 8th's Captain Matt Freeman who had a suspected broken leg during the mid-week match but it turned out to be a badly damaged muscle. We sent two more to Barnet General on Saturday: a Crouch End Vamp with a bad gash on the shin and Sean Carroll with a dislocated shoulder. Sean returned with his drinking arm in a sling - an alarming development just before the Dinner!

Cup Finals at the Club
There is just one remaining Cup Final to be held at the Club:
April 24th Old Boys Cup Junior Cup Final: Old Parmiterians 2nds v Old Minchendenians 2nds

3bogs Cup Final
The 3rd XI suited and booted travelled to Beckenham for the first ever SAL Cup Final in the clubs history. Unfortunately the cup didn't come home but well done to captain Sterry and his 3bogs for giving it their best shot!

EBOG Club Tour 2011
We have decided that an EBOG club tour is well overdue. Anyone who is brave enough to attend needs to give Sam Patel £200 by October 2010. The likely month this will be is April. Open to suggestions on where to go. Any more information regarding this please speak to Sam.
