Well what can I say? The 8th XI v 7th XI. It was a day of cunning and guile and Roy was very cunning by dafting in Bobby Gere and John Chitty. The team the 7XI had on paper should have wiped the floor with us. But hey we are the 8XI and sometimes we won’t let people knock us.

The toss of the coin – this was strange as the 7th XI won the toss and elected to kick downhill first half – weird eh 1st half. – The 7th XI came out all guns blazing and they were kicking downhill. They were all over us, however, they knew that with our silky skills they were not going to beat us that easily. However, they scored and we were 1-0 down and all to play for. We still had breaks against them and came close a couple of times. Half time 1-0

2nd half – Well this is when the 8th XI came into there own and started to play football. However, we went 2-0 down and looked to have been beaten. Not according to David Bond, he started to play football and started to rip apart there defence. Then we scored with a goal by Tim Finney. Then a mistake by me let Greg Christfoli through and it was 3-1 down and we all thought it was over. Once again our midlfield and forwards started to break through their defences and Tim scored his second and we looked like we could grab a draw or even win it. Then we did the unthinkable and equalised to the dismay of the 7th XI who had thought they had won it. I would just like to say in the last seconds that Bobby Gere was given a 6.0 6.0 6.0 6.0 6.0 6.0 for what can only be described as a lovely uhum simulation to try and earn the 7’s a penalty, but the ref saw through it and blew the final whistle.

Special acclaim must go to Jason Capon, Bradley Capon and David Bond. Well done guys. Full time and 3-3, to sum things up the 7th XI should have won this by a long shot, but were outclassed by the final 20 mins of the second half by the 8’s Well done the 8th XI you deserved the point.

Well, following the euphoria of last weeks 5-4 win we kind of thought that today would be more difficult and sure enough it was.

We started off with just 3 at the back, which was probably a little ambitious, and after 30 seconds Steve rightly shouted we need 4 at the back and quickly changed formation. We actually did pretty well for the first half. The new father son partnership did us proud with Steve marshalling the defence and son Sam scoring from a free kick which left us 2-1 down at half time An inspiring half time talk and we were ready for the come back. Roy came on for Brian in the second half and although Roy set the mood with some skilful mid field headers the oppo began to find their feet. The offside trick which had served us so well in the first half began to fall apart as Hill just started to run at us which was difficult to stop.

All the shots, which went wide in the first half suddenly started to go in and before knew it we were 4 or 5 down. At one point the ball dropped for the oppo from 5 yards out and all I could see was this bullet heading towards my nose so I duly ducked out of the way, Richard standing on the post didn’t fancy his nose being damaged either so he ducked to and it ended up in the net.

Oh well at least we can now concentrate on the league Come on the 8ths.

Well, following the euphoria of last weeks 5-4 win we kind of thought that today would be more difficult and sure enough it was.

What can I say I didn't get a win for the 8s. We started playing with a 4-1-3-2 formation and they scored first with pass a cross the box and a tape in. Then we scored to make it 1-1, a great goal from Sam Down from the left over the keeper and in. We were then all over the place in the first half, they scored again with a big defection to make it 2-1 with Harry Bassant going off for Lee Hocking and we went into halt time. Then in the second half with Adam Carrara coming on for Grant we started to play a bit better but they created more chances then us with Jay pulling off some great saves to keep the score down but I fill that GOD was shining down on us. One of their guys went round Jay but put it wide, which was an open goal. Christo done well at LB with some good tackles, Simon run his legs out on the right. As for me the stand in Captain I didn’t' have a good game but I did clear one off the line and almost took my Brother out at the same time. And I have to say sorry to Tony for brining him on late in the 80th min. One last thing, Steve Down played very well and the back for us and put in some good strong tackles.
